Repairing 310 hectares of landslide-damaged terraces with bio-engineering.
After the 2015 earthquake and the monsoons that followed, many terraces in northern Gorkha had collapsed, and families were farming less land every year.
Working ward by ward, we combined stone repairs with bio-engineering — broom grass, bamboo and live hedges along the terrace risers — and trained local masons. Landslide-prone slopes were planted and closed to grazing.
Objectives
- Repair 310 hectares of damaged terraces
- Train 120 local masons in bio-engineering
- Stabilise 45 active landslide sites
- Prepare ward-level hazard maps with communities
