5,600 improved cookstoves that cut firewood use by a third and smoke in the kitchen.
Open fires inside the home fill kitchens with smoke and burn far more firewood than they need to. Women and girls carry most of that wood.
Local masons trained by the programme built 5,600 improved mud and metal cookstoves with chimneys. Households measured their firewood before and after, and women’s groups ran the follow-up visits.
Objectives
- Install 5,600 improved cookstoves with chimneys
- Cut household firewood use by at least 30%
- Train 80 local stove masons
- Reduce indoor smoke exposure for women and children
